ROUND CORE
ROUND CORE WIRE AND CABLES
HOUSE (ROUND CORE) WIRES AND CABLES
House (round core) wires and cables consist of circular-section conductors designed for power, control, and lighting applications where uniform geometry, compact form, and efficient current flow are critical. The round construction enhances mechanical strength, allows easy pulling through conduits, and ensures even insulation thickness, making them a versatile choice across residential, industrial, and commercial installations.
- Conductor: High-conductivity electrolytic copper or aluminium with purity above 99.5%, in solid or stranded form (class 2 or class 5) as per IS 8130. The round profile minimizes skin effect losses and provides balanced current distribution across the cross-section.
- Insulation: PVC insulation types such as Type A (general purpose), Type B HR (heat resistant), or flame/fire-resistant grades like Type C1 (FR), Type C2 (FRLS-H), and ZHFR (zero halogen) for improved safety in sensitive locations.
- Sheath: Uniform circular PVC sheath (ST1/ST2/ST3) extruded over insulated cores for mechanical protection and flexibility. Standard rated voltage Uo/U is 660/1100 V, with insulation tested at 3 kV to ensure dielectric integrity.
- Rated voltage: 0.6/1 kV in line with IS 694 for domestic and industrial-grade round core cables.
- Temperature rating: Continuous operating temperature up to 70 °C for standard PVC; short-circuit withstand up to 160 °C.
- Resistance and current: Lower electrical resistance due to symmetrical conductor geometry, ensuring stable current flow and minimal power loss. Current ratings vary with size, installation method, and ambient conditions.
- Available in single-core and multi-core versions (2 to 5 cores commonly). Conductor sizes range from 0.5 sq mm to 300 sq mm, suitable for applications from control wiring to heavy-duty power circuits.
- Multi-core versions maintain consistent roundness across all layers, aiding bundling and conduit installation.
